On May 11, 2022, the Stanford Medicine Center for Improvement (SMCI) and the Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) co-sponsored this symposium in partnership with The Legacy Health Endowment and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The conference was the vision of Drs. Nirav Shah and Terry Platchek.
The conference objectives were to:
- Introduce key domains that need further focus for innovation: Safety, quality, equity, access, and cost
- Identify best-in-class approaches using technology for improving independent home care for individuals and family caregivers
- Showcase Stanford as the home for quality/safety/value and digital innovation thinking
- Create connections and community for speakers and participants
The event brought together, both virtually and in-person, national health care leaders and Silicon Valley foundations and other organizations to discuss safety and quality gaps in home health innovation, policy to advance patient and family-centered care, the new tech-enabled continuum of care, and advances on the hospital at home.
Dr. Meena Seshamani, click here , Director of the Center for Medicare, opened the symposium with a fireside chat, moderated by Dr. Shah. Dr. Kedar Mate, click here , President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, closed the symposium with his talk entitled: What do we really want? Technology and the quality of care.
David Entwistle, President and CEO of Stanford Health Care kicked off the event with his strong expression of support for the partnership Stanford Health Care has with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs to improve access to and the quality, safety, and value of health care for all. Alexandra Drane, co-founder and CEO of ARCHANGELS, spoke passionately about caring for the caregiver and the relentless demands on them that are often not recognized and addressed.
