PQMS For Champions:
Leading through A3 Thinking

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

PQMS for Champions: Leading through A3 Thinking is Stanford Children’s Health’s approach to problem solving that reinforces how the process and thinking in creating the A3 are most important.

Course participants will learn to:

  • See problems as opportunities

  • Apply critical thinking vs. reactivity or assumption

  • Approach improvement with humility and respect

  • Create engagement and alignment

  • Use Process & systems thinking

  • Clarify process scope and focus

  • Learn through data, facts, and observation

  • Collect and understand current state data and facts

  • Conduct current state analysis

  • Set improvement goals

  • Identify future state and implement countermeasures

  • Measure, evaluate and share outcomes

  • Execute through iterative improvement (PDCA)

  • Sustain outcomes and plan for continuous improvement

  • Intermediate to Advanced

  • Required: PQMS Foundations

    Recommended: PQMS for Champions: Leading with Daily Management Systems (DMS)

    Additionally, you must have a leadership sponsor for the A3 project

  • In person at the Stanford Barn
    700 Welch Road, Palo Alto, CA 94305

  • This course lasts 12 weeks.

    There will be 6 half-day sessions (10:00am – 2:30pm; 35 classroom hours). You should expect to spend an additional 2 – 4 hours per week to meet with an A3 coach and to work on the A3 (24 – 48 additional hours outside of the classroom)

  • No cost for Stanford Medicine participants*

    *Registered Nurse Continuing Education Units available. 21.5 hours. CE Fee: $332.35
